The Chairman Home: Luxury candle range descriptions and collateral

The brief was to avoid generic descriptions common among other candle brands and to tell a story based on an emotion or experience instead.

The Chairman Home aims to make great design accessible for all while maintaining an aura of luxury. These candles are no different, so it was important the copy for each candle almost mimicked their divine, unique smells. I also wrote about the sustainability of the candles for their leaflets, touching on the pure soy wax and reusable glass jars.

02 — Creative process

I was first sent samples of each candle and came up with unique names for each. These weren't thumbsucked — I took the time to smell each one carefully, relying totally on my senses for distinctive notes that I then researched. Based on my research, I suggested names with correlating descriptions that each had its own theme.

I came up with five different names that were either based on a place or emotion. For example, the Tobacco Flower candle was named Oriental Garden to describe the Tobacco Flower's scent, originating from Persia. The client was extremely happy with the results and the range launched in September 2021.

Working with Gabi has been an absolute pleasure. We approached her to draft some descriptions for an extremely exciting new product that we are launching and the result was exactly what we had expected! Gabi was efficient in responding to queries and paid clear attention to the brief. She was very willing to edit as per our request.
