Please Don't Leave

In a dream, I don’t tell anyone,

but you put your head in my lap.

Your dark mane coats my bare legs

With its soft curls and wispy ends.

Rounded cheeks kiss my calves

with sunburnt hellos and freckled whispers.

You speak something into the pit of my knee,

Each syllable vibrating from those lips.

Sepia-toned portals reach my gaze

As you turn your curled head.

"I have to go,” they paused.

“I cannot stay here.”

I brush back your hair,

Fingers hugging black curls with each stroke.

My emerald eyes can’t convince you to stay,

Pursed lips try to attempt.

“Where will you go?”

Thick lashes hide you from me.

Your heated cheeks sink deeper

into my pinkish flesh.

“I must run amongst the angels;

Fly high and swim low

As to never be caught.”

Their tanned fingers count my leg hair

With each passing stroke.

“When do you have to go?”

Pleas erupt from my emerald eyes.

“I'm already there”, they mouth.

Outstretched arms give signals to the sky,

Finger-picking the clouds and stars.

Ascending towards the moon,

My dark-haired angel blows kisses

Of luster dust and promises.
