Blink Twice

A Serious Warning & The Cast

As stated by Amazon MGM Studios, ā€œBlink Twice is a psychological thriller about the abuse of power. While this is a fictionalized movie, it contains mature themes and depictions of violence ā€“ including sexual violence. This may be upsetting or triggering for some viewers.ā€

Take the warning seriously.

Directed by Zoe Kravitz, Blink Twice stars Channing Tatum, Naomi Ackie, Adria Arjuna, Geena Davis, Simon Rex, Haley Joel Osment, and Alia Shawkat. All of whom delivered exceptional performances from the very beginning and all the way through the recovered memories. The handle and care between the scenes with Channing and Naomi has to be commended. A character that plays a major part of the film is a yellow lighter belonging to Jess, portrayed by Alia Shawkat. While it is a small object, it locks in a major plot twist that solidifies that the ā€˜weirdā€™ feeling is very well justified.

Ā The film gives an eerie feeling from the very start, which I would say resembles Jordan Peeleā€™s Get Out in a way.

An Eerie Connection to Hollywood

Also credited as a writer along with E.T. Feigenbaum, Zoe Kravitz previously stated that the script was developed to address the lack of conversation about how women are treated in the entertainment industry. Kravitz also mentioned in an interview with Deadline that the film is strongly influenced by her own experiences. Not putting an emphasis on her status as an entertainer but as a woman.

Slater King, portrayed by Channing Tatum, is a tech billionaire who happened to have purchased his own private island. Slater has many similarities to Jeffrey Epstein, an American serial sex traffickers, pedophile, and multimillionaire financier. Along with the behavior of Harvey Weinstein, itā€™s clear that Blink Twice connects to conditions women face today and it nor the conditions should ever be forgotten.

A Power Dynamic

As someone with a connection to the main topic of the film, the ending is something that rarely happens in film or in real life. The change in power, the switch of the power dynamic was as satisfying as it could possibly be when you are dealing with a man with power and an endless supply of power who is committing heinous crimes. While it is not the ending that some may have hoped for, it is important to remember that it is a psychological thriller, and those endings are meant to leave viewers wondering.
