In this fourth installment of Captain America, we are introduced as Anthony Mackie portraying Sam Wilson as Captain America for the first time ever on screen. Brave New World also stars Danny Ramirez as Joaquin Torres (The Falcon), Giancarlo Esposito as Seth Voelker, and Carl Lumbly returning as Isaiah Bradley. Harrison Ford picks up the mantle of Thaddeus Ross in this installment as the character was previously played by William Hurt who passed away on March 13th, 2022. It was nice to see that Marvel kept some surprise cameos under wraps.
With that being said, the longer a viewer waits to see this film, the more likely that the cameos will be spoiled so be warned.
Besides a throw away joke made in âShe â Hulkâ on Disney +, a major complaint since the end of Eternals in 2021 has been âWhy are we not talking about the celestial?!â Now, four years later, the Celestial is being addressed and utilized as a main plot point. Introduced at the Celestial Island World Summit, the celestial is mentioned throughout the rest of the film. Without diving into what exactly each country plans to use Celestial Island for, it is a very large resource located in the middle of the Indian Ocean. Its location makes it a perfect point of conflict between surrounding countries. While, it may have taken a while to address, viewers finally will have some kind of conclusion about the Celestial by the end of Brave New World.
A message that holds true throughout the film is âif we canât see the good in each other, weâve already lost the fightâ. This rings true within the Marvel fan discourse. There are, and have been, good aspects in each of the Marvel projects that have been released since End Game. The prior three Captain America films are NOT End Game and are adored both by fans and critics alike. Collectively, viewers and critics need to cease going into every Marvel film expecting End Game. Especially since it took 23 films, over the course of 11 years, to reach the level of âpeak Marvel greatnessâ that is universally loved and adored. Now that we have reminded ourselves that this, and none of the several upcoming projects, are not End Game, letâs move on to the actual point of Captain America: Brave New World.
If you did not have time to watch Disney + show âThe Falcon and the Winter Soliderâ that was released in March of 2021, I strongly suggest you spend the time watching the series from start to finish either before your showing or afterwards. If you are not able to give it a watch beforehand, you may catch yourself asking âWho is this?â at least twice during your film showing. While Brave New World establishes Sam Wilson as Captain America, it is not the first project to do so. It is a film solidifies why Sam is the right person to hold the shield on a bigger scale then the show already established four years prior. Based on the future projects announced and in development, we will see more of Captain America on screen which I am extremely excited to experience.
Sam Wilson proves, once again, that Steve Rogers made the correct choice and Anthony Mackie deserves his flowers.
