I do not watch movies about slavery because they make me angry.
Films that have anything to do about slavery normally have the same aspects but have a different cast show casing that same information.
Africans were taken from their home to other countries, used for free labor, beaten, raped, forced to procreate with other slaves, experimented on, their hair was even used to stuff furniture like chairs and couches. I don’t watch movies about slavery because I know what happens and they make me very angry.
Well, I was in the right frame of mind to finally give The Woman King a view on Netflix and I learned something. I learned many new things.
I had no idea about anything regarding the Kingdom of Dahomey and the impact it had on the slave trade.
I highly suggest that anyone do their own research just to see how much of an impact Dahomey made on the slave trade.
Even with the main topic being something that generates a negative reaction, all of the actresses in this depiction are beautiful. While being powerful and strong. I truly believe that it's one of the most important parts of the entire project. With the difficult material that was presented, they handled it well and I am very glad I gave this a chance.
