A Content Writer with a Twist
I've always believed in the power of storytelling.
Some of my earliest memories include scribbling the alphabet down on stapled pads of paper, sharing fairytales of my own invention to all who would hear. As I grew older, I promised myself that I would always keep that passion alive. In 2019, I made good on my promise by choosing to study Professional Writing as an undergraduate English major. As I began to learn and admire the intricacies of professional writing, part of me wondered where my love for storytelling could fit in this new world.
As I continued to study, I learned more about the careers available to professional writers and storytellers.
Among these careers was the field of content writing. Involving the writing of articles, blog posts, scripts, and more for websites, content writing was introduced to me as a generally technical field. However, after examining job postings for a creative professional writer, I found that content writing could perfectly combine my love for narrative and professional writing. Now, two years into my career as a professional “creative content writer”, I make it my business to find the story in every project I’m given and to share that story in an engaging way with others.
Purpose
This portfolio takes you through the many facets of my work as a creative content writer with an emphasis in storytelling. In my work for cdcb “Come Dream. Come Build.” and MTF “Musculoskeletal Transplant Foundation” Biologics, readers can observe the way I incorporate creative storytelling into the field of marketing and communications. The Oakwood Magazine article, Kelly Is Write, showcases my approach to journalism as a creative storyteller. Lastly, the works “What’s in a Name” and Passion from Witness: The Life and Ministry of Jesus Christ exhibit my creative voice as a content writer on both a blog and an original eBook, respectively.
