Word Tonic Enewsletter/Interview

Nobody puts copywriters in the corner...unless it's for an interview!

Over 4,000 people get this weekly email. No joke!

I am honored and humbled that people out in the copywriting community want to hear my Gen-Z-inspired advice. Scroll down to see the full interview.

The Interview:

Q: What's your one top copywriting tip?
A: Curate your own creative world.

If the pandemic taught me one thing, it was that the space you write in influences your mindset, productivity, and the ideas you come up with. I work remotely from home, so having a dedicated writing area that sparks joy is super important to the way I ideate and write.

I personally thrive in colorfully muted places! Lavenders, dusty blues, and subtle pinks particularly work wonders on the right side of my brain.

Q: What's one thing you loved about writing specifically for food and beverage brands?

A: I love eating and trying new culinary experiences. And food is what keeps me going — I can’t write when I’m hungry! I also can’t write without coffee, so shout out to Nespresso for keeping my dream of being a writer alive.

Q: What's one copywriting career tip you'd give to newbies?

A: Stay curious and allow that curiosity to inspire what you read and write next. Keep notebooks full of ideas you come up with along the way. You never know when random sh!t will come in handy.

Q: What advice would you give to a young person looking to work at a copywriting agency?
A: Research the agencies you’d love to work for. Build a portfolio of work that YOU love and would be proud to share with them. And then, go out and do!

Never forget to ask for help or advice when you’re feeling stuck. Being a young creative can be daunting, and lucky for us Gen Z peeps, there are people who came before us and are paving the way!

I’m always lurking on Dan Nelken’s LinkedIn account when I’m feeling down about my future as a copywriter. He sure has a magical way of reminding me that my inner critic really is a ding-dong.
